There I was sitting all by myself in these comfy chairs watching my friends laugh with their friend’s while I just sat alone and thought about myself in selfish ways. Sadly, I don’t think I’m the only one that has experienced that because we are a bunch of selfish people. Have you every heard the word selfie? Just a few years ago, I remember one of my sisters turning to me and saying, “Our world is so selfish and promotes it. Look around, everyday people take tons of selfies. Selfies are simply an act of only taking a photo of yourself.” This kinda hit me pretty hard, and from that day on I really have stopped taking selfies of just myself.
Hear me out, there is nothing wrong with taking a picture of yourself, but just don’t go overboard and become obsessed with the way you look or spending time perfecting you're poses. I personally realized that I’m one of the MOST selfish person ever, and I know God straight up says that we are not to be selfish.
Do nothing our of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather in humility value others above yourself. Philippians 2:3
Wow, God tells us to do NOTHING out of selfish ambition, but view others higher than ourselves. This is so hard! I struggle with it everyday. Just last week, I realized I was struggling with this so much that I wrote down Philippians 2:3 and taped it on my mirror. It's time for change. It is time to value others higher than ourselves. It is time to start loving others harder. It is time to stop living for ourselves and start living for Jesus! I challenge you this week to pick one part of your life and instead of thinking of yourself think of someone else and pray for them. For example, my phone is one spot where I tend to be very selfish, so I changed my home screen to a picture of a friend or family member that I should spend more time praying for. Now every time I check my phone, I see that person and I stop and pray for them. This challenge sounds silly, but it truly can change your mindset to start thinking of others more than yourself.
